It is also important to identify pages that are generated through Flash or a JavaScript, as Search Engines cannot read Flash pages nor can they read the links embedded within Flash. These are some of the tricks unethical webmasters use. While such a site may claim to have placed a link to your Web page, in effect they are not giving you any benefit.

Link building is not about publishing a link directory, it’s not about swapping links with as many other websites as possible, it’s not about search engine optimization and it’s not about boosting your Google Page Rank.

While covering several angles is definitely a smart marketing move, it also can lead to a bit of confusion on the part of each person involved as to how exactly to determine whether or not results (good or bad) have come from his or her own specific efforts. Hopefully your client is measuring ROI as well, but it’s definitely best if you do keep track of your own results.

An effective link building strategy is not, “I’m looking for 50 links from websites with a minimum Page Rank of 5″ but rather, “I want 50 links from the most important information websites that my customers and potential customers regularly use.”

An algorithm called “Applied Semantics” algorithm studies various keywords on a Web page and tries to determine the industry or business segment of each page. The Applied Semantics determines the industry relevance of a page within a site. Applied Semantics estimates the industry segments that are relevant to a particular page.

Linkbuilding is still the holy grail for the newbie internet marketer. There are so many ways to do it and so few ways to do it right. 90% of people in forums seem to be going down the wrong road and educating people who want to take short cuts to top rankings is almost impossible.

It may not be something that you’re comfortable doing, for whatever reason. If you have expectations in place (such as open communication and honesty) then you may find it difficult to deal with this situation if you’re not “allowed” to speak to other parties. In some cases, you won’t have a clue that others are working on the same campaign, for example.

If this isn’t something you can handle, don’t get involved. If you are involved and then find out after the fact, just do your best to work around it.
