In announcing Stafford as the starting QB for the Lions, Schwartz made clear that hes very confident with his personnel at the position including third stringer Drew Stanton:

“I’ve had a lot of very tough decisions in the last few days — guys making the 53-man roster or not making it — but none more difficult than at quarterback. We announced to our team this morning that Matt Stafford is going to be our starting quarterback.”

“I’m very, very comfortable with the quarterback position here, not just one and two, but also three. What made this decision difficult was that I think we can win with Daunte Culpepper, I think we can with Matt Stafford, and I think we can win with Drew Stanton.

Stafford indicated that he didnt know he’d be the starter until Schwartz gave him the word:

“I definitely thought I was going to be the guy, but as competitive as Daunte is, I’m sure he thought he was going to be the guy, too. Coach Schwartz called me in this morning and told me, and I went out and practiced with the first team. That was exciting.”

Despite the Lions dismal 0-16 record a year ago, Stafford stressed that he wants to win:

“I’m going to try to win football games. I think, just like everyone else on this team, that we can go out on Sunday and be competitive against the Saints and give ourselves a chance to win the game. That’s our job.”

Schwartz said that he plans to give his quarterback the opportunity plenty of margin for error as he learns the ropes:

“This isn’t an internship. This isn’t a trial basis. He’s our starting quarterback. We said that, to win the job, he had to be ready, and he had to be our best quarterback, and that’s what he has shown.”

He also praised Culpepper:

“Daunte Culpepper is back — there’s no doubt in my mind and there’s no doubt around this league. He’s going to be back as a starting quarterback in this league, and with a high level of success.”

Culpepper didnt speak to the media, but that wasnt a surprise since he never speaks to the media. Stafford, meanwhile, had some kind words for his backup:

“I’m sure it is tough for him, but Daunte’s been great for me and he will continue to be. I can’t think of a better guy to learn from and to have in my corner.”

The Lions will look for their first regular season win in over a year as they start the NFL regular season at New Orleans on Sunday. Theyll play the following two games at home, hosting the Minnesota Vikings in week #2 and the Washington Redskins on Sunday, September 27.

You can meet a ton of new people on Twitter. Find people that talk about what you are doing in your business by using Twitter’s search function. Watch them to see what they do and interact with your audience. As you talk to more people, you gain the attention of others who will talk to you.

Secret number two is your story. People want to do business with real people, not big brands. Why do you sell your products? Do you have an interesting background story related to your business? Do you sell your products because of something that happened to you in the past? Get better customers and more sales by telling your story. It qualifies people and helps them get to know the real you. The perception of you that your customer takes from what you do is important and some things may be best left unsaid.

Secret number three is remembering to treat your audience like real people. People focus far too much on numbers, conversions, sales statistics, etc… Focus on the fact that your audience are human beings. Do you like when you are forced to view a pop up window? They may not like it either. Think about your customers first and the experience they have on your sites. You have to keep two specific things in mind – your sales and the experience of thos that come to your site. Think of both to get more sales with the same traffic.

The fourth secret is relationships. The right business relationships will give you the opportunity to get massive, new traffic. My email is full of joint venture requests every day. I pay attention to people that I care about. Imagine what would happen if you picked up the phone and asked your friend for help. Wouldn’t that work better than sending a spammy email to someone you don’t know?

You should also be building relationships with your customers. The better they know and like you, the more likely they’ll by what you sell. Do a show on Ustream, respond to people that comment on your blog posts, and deliver content they want to devour and enjoy.

The final secret is to find the communities in your market. There are already websites where thousands of your potential customers hang out. Find them and join up. Help others and answer questions they have, before you know it, they will start searching for you. Don’t post offers, just build your reputation by helping people. It takes time and a bit of effort, but before long you will have a raving audience by simply becoming part of the community and helping people that are already interested in what you do.
