Scan Your Computer To See How Vulnerable It Is

Secunia.com will scan your computer and tell you if you have any insecure versions of common or popular programs installed on your PC. If there are patches (updates) for any of them that you have not installed, it will alert you to this – and provide the download link.
A handy service indeed. I found several items that needed updating.

Online based scanners like this always make me nervous- especially when you can’t necessarily guarantee what’s installed behind your back when you agree to allow the software to run.
Personally, I trust nessus- it’s free and easy to use.

This is indeed handy. Of course you will not be as protected as you would be if you have a dedicated antivirus software running in your computer. But then again, this is for free and you do not have to download anything. Great great share!

Computer protection really is an issue. You can never be 100% safe. Unfortunatly there’s always people out there wanting to do bad things.

This is a very interetsting site. Some people make the mistake of assusming that its just Windows updates that are important. This company scans a much wider base of applications. I like this concept of preventative maintenance. its much easier than trying to remove virus infections and rootkits and it only takes a few minutes for thier scan.

I tried the link but encountered a Java problem. It says that Java 1.6 version or higher is needed. Java applets not running..wonder why? How can i enable my Java applet on my browser? Am running mozilla firefox …

I think that using something like this is good, but something like an antivirus protection should also be installed. Plus windows does much of the patching anyway.
