Paperback Books: Is The Ebook Taking Over?

You will hear a lot of people making the claim that the success of the eBook means that paperbacks are doomed. This week the sales of eBooks surpassed that of paperbacks for the first time. Just a year ago, the sale of eBooks overtook the sale of hardback books but people thought that this was just a fad and that we would never see a day when the eBook outdid the paperback book sales. Well what did they know because this has actually now happened. So does this mean that paperbacks are going to become a novelty item like vinyl records?
Many of us are very surprised at the success of the eBook. The big reason for this is because of the huge improvements that have been made in the eBook reader technology; the things that people thought would hamper its success have been rectified. The eBook Reader is easy to carry around with us everywhere and using the device is simple; it also means we can take a library with us wherever we go. Another fantastic thing about the eBook reader is that you can always get access to new eBooks no matter where you are; you also have the ability to get your hands on hundreds of free eBooks. So no wonder there is concern among those in the traditional paper book industry it will be hard to beat the eBook.
However there is a lot of reason to believe that we will see the paper back book around for a long time yet. Many people just don’t like the idea of reading eBooks and even some of those that have tried this technology have claimed that they prefer the paperback. It is likely that paperback sales will continue to fall, but it will eventually level out. There might not be the big profits available in traditional publishing but there will still be a place for this older way of doing things.
