Learn to Cash-In With These Offline Marketing Tips

September 2nd, 2010

People who consider themselves internet marketers tend to become so immersed in the online world that they focus all of their marketing in that direction. You may, for example, have a considerable budget for search engine advertising, SEO services, banner ads or paying writers for articles. What about the possibility of using a portion of your marketing expenses on offline marketing techniques? You should keep in mind that potential customers are all over! The key point is that if you only use one type of marketing, you are going to be bypassing lots of people who get their information elsewhere! Many internet marketers don’t even know how to begin marketing offline. There are some well-tested strategies for marketing offline; we’ll explore of few of them here.

Forget about e-mail marketing for a moment and think about what has been around a lot longer: direct mail marketing. This is the classical advertising technique of simply sending a brochure or postcard to people via the postal service. Printing your own letters, postcards and fliers is a great way to cut down on the cost of this type of project. Postcards cost less to mail than letters and fliers, which is another way to cut down on cost.

A good way to start attracting clients to your business is to target business owners who operate regular businesses in the niche that you are marketing to. It can also be profitable to market to ordinary people who don’t own businesses. You should become familiar with any laws about sending out mail (e.g. some people may be on do not mail lists) before you embark on a direct mail campaign.

Try leaving your business card in books at the library. Take a stack of cards with you to the bookstore and local library and look for the book section that is associated with your niche; slip your cards in between the pages. All it takes is for you to do is pull a book off the shelf shuffle a few pages, in conspicuously place your card in, and then return it back to its spot. Don’t worry – you probably won’t get in too much trouble if you get caught – probably nothing more than a strongly worded warning!

Pay for a spot in the phone book. This is one of the most overlooked places to advertise your online business. Yes most people have started using the internet to look up phone numbers and addresses and local businesses. No matter the case, all of the large phone books have an online version as well.

Buy space in both and you should be set! You can expect a lot of traffic by taking advantage of both resources. Don’t ignore phone books like other internet marketers. There are lots of ways to promote your business without using the internet. You need to at least realize that the offline market is a giant compared to the internet. With the help of offline marketing you can take your business up a few notches.
