After much anticipation Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is coming to DVD. This movie had a slightly Harry Potter feel to it, possibly because the director from the first Harry Potter movie directed this one, but it was still entertaining and something the whole family can enjoy. This series is based off a book series by Rick Riordan which probably means there will be more of these to come. This movie had a decent plot, good characters, and a historical adventure with a modern twist. Make sure you get your copy today.

The plot is about the main character Percy who is a demigod and his best friend and his protector who happens to be a satyr. They journey with Athena’s daughter and they are looking for pearls that can teleport them anywhere since Percy’s mother was taken to Hades. So now you can watch this tape and find out if they get a chance to rescue his mother or not, and who Percy’s father really is.

The characters in the movie are enjoyable. Percy comes off as the average guy, the satyr is the kind of loyal friend everyone wants, and Athena’s daughter is cute girl with a sassy attitude to match. The three of them click well together and are ones that children can like and relate to. There’s also lots of mythological creatures, so children get a Greek mythology less along with it.

The adventure is not all action but it is like a big history lesson. You learn a lot about certain mythological creatures such as Medusa and Hades. Part of the way they figure out where the pearls from Persephone’s necklace are is by figuring out the myth. But instead of going back into history, they find the pearls in modern day locations in the United States.

If you want a series that the family can enjoy together than try this one. It’s definitely a 4 out of 5 stars. Fun adventure mixed with some mythology.
